Assisting the transition to a circular economy in England and France
PECT is a key partner in the BLUEPRINT project. BLUEPRINT is an Interreg-funded European project aiming to assist the transition to a circular economy in England and France.
Uniting world-class research centres and local authorities, the BLUEPRINT project hopes not only to provide a circular economy transition framework to local authorities across England and France but also to increase household recycling rates and drive the creation of new jobs for the benefit of local communities.
A circular economy (CE) has an undoubtedly positive impact on the environment through resource efficiency, reuse of materials and a reduction in the need for raw materials. With the increased demand for return, repair, and redesign services, a potential 3 million new jobs could be created (WRAP) and an 83% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions can be realised (European Environment Agency).
Total project budget is €5.6m, of which the European Regional Development Fund contributed €3.8m

areas of focus
- Working with local authorities directly to build a strategic framework combining the action on CE with the need to achieve EU increased recycling targets to 65% by 2035.
- Delivering the ‘Do More Waste Less: An Introduction to the Circular Economy’ free workshop for Peterborough residents to mobilise the local job market in the CE.
- Creating behaviour change in schools, households and communities to support CE growth in local areas.
